Biblical Studies Carnvial XLII

Jim Getz at Ketuvim has posted Biblical Studies Carnival XLII (that's twice extra-large) for May. My little post a few days ago on angelic circumcision in Jubilees made the cut.

Ouch! and congrats

(I meant to ask you on your post whether you thought Paul's advice to Corinthians - "because of the angels" of I Cor 11:10 - had anything to do with the state of angels you describe).

Indirectly, yes. I always have read that verse relating to discussion of the "sons of god" intermarrying with the "daughters of men" and producing a race of giants (Gen. 6) or if you prefer the lengthier variant of the Watchers intermarrying with human women and producing a race of giants who invent war on the earth (Book of Watchers in 1 Enoch). To the degree that angels are depicted as male and, apparently, sexually potent, they must have penises, and those penises, evidently, in a Jewish mindset, would be circumcised--these are Jewish angels and not Gentile gods! So, the fact that they would be circumcised probably would not relate to 1 Corinthians in that sense, but the fact that they have something to circumcise might.
